Zakir Hussain Tribute Concert: Ganesh Rajagopalan, Anantha R. Krishnan, and Chirag Dixit

To honor the life and legacy of one of the greatest musicians of our time, the late Ustad Zakir Hussain, The Music Circle presents Hussain's collaborators Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin and Anantha R. Krishnan on mridangam. This concert is a homage and continuation of his legacy carried forth by his students and colleagues. The Music Circle and Ustad Zakir Hussain have a long history, 48 shows together starting in 1973.

The concert will have two parts:

1) A rhythmic approach to improvisation highlighting the confluence of Jazz and Indian traditions over the last half-century. Anantha R. Krishnan, one of the premiere percussionists in the world, and a maestro of the mridangam presents a talk explaining some of the key aspects of rhythmic improvisation followed by a solo exhibition with sarangi accompaniment.
